As any author knows, you had better steel yourself to getting these. I am actually a little excited, because it just shows that I HAVE been submitting, and that it is plenty time to submit my proposal again, somewhere else! It was a LONG rejection letter, which I merely skimmed, as it appeared to greatly be advertisement for what the house HAS published. But my project was specifically mentioned in the text, although with nothing more than good wishes. On the more actual plus side, in the mail today also was my 401K quarterly report, which is doing well.

It has been a hectic and slightly dangerous week; I have been unable to update as I would have liked! I was in a 3 car pile up on the on ramp to the Interstate. No serious injuries; I was a bit whiplashy, tired and stiff for 2 days. A few days later my husband had a facial incident with his car door and we were in for stitches. I am hoping the excitement is over!
I am submitting my query letter today! This was the challenge presented by our teacher last Monday, and I am determined to be among those who have risen to it! In truth, I have been ready to do this for a week or two anyhow. I have been doing my research to see which publishers might have an interest in the idea. Even though I haven’t discovered EVERY publisher that might be a match, I am eager to begin this next step. It is a wee bit difficult to know exactly how to categorize it. “Humor” or “creative non-fiction” is the best I am finding for a match. I think my query is clear enough that it will be easy for a publisher to determine if the concept is suitable to their readership. I will be working on my Book Proposal over the next week, as well. Some publishers might have enough information from my query letter to know they would like to proceed, but others may request a proposal, and I want to be ready with that additional information if necessary.
Some more submissions have been coming in- verbal, written, and my first one from online! Very exciting! Once I have gotten a few query letters ready to mail, I will be spending some hours this afternoon writing up some more submissions! Hope to have a numerical update for you soon! I have a story submission form on this site, if you know anyone who might like to see their story in print!
I am looking for an artist, preferably an unpublished artist, who would like to explore “First Publication” with me. I have 2 interested artists already, but thought I would like to see if anyone here on WordPress knows someone who might be interested in an opportunity. I am getting my query letter in the mail this week, so within a month I would like to choose an artist. I don’t know how the artists payment would work if I land a traditional publisher. If I fail to land a traditional publisher, I expect to try self publishing, so payment would probably be based on percentage, that is how much of the total effort they bring to the project. In either case, I would like an artist who is also motivated to personally market our book as I will be doing.
The concept is “Crazy Things Kids Believe” and is a collection of anecdotal stories of adults looking back on their misconceptions in childhood. If you are, or know an artist who might like to be involved, please have them contact me here, and in a few weeks I will send out 2 or 3 of the stories for them to illustrate. I am thinking only line drawings at this time, especially if we self-publish, to keep costs reasonable.
